The Second Book of Moses, Called Exodus

Chapter 10

1

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Go in3 unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened52 his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew2 these my signs before him:

2

And that thou mayest tell17 in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought98 in Egypt, and my signs which I have done1 among them; that ye may know1 how that I [am] the LORD.

3

And Moses and Aaron came in4 unto Pharaoh, and said4 unto him, Thus saith1 the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse14 to humble9 thyself before me? let my people go,16 that they may serve4 me.

4

Else, if thou refuse to let my people go,15 behold, to morrow will I bring56 the locusts into thy coast:

5

And they shall cover14 the face of the earth, that one cannot be able4 to see2 the earth: and they shall eat1 the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth12 unto you from the hail, and shall eat1 every tree which groweth6 for you out of the field:

6

And they shall fill1 thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen,1 since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned4 himself, and went out4 from Pharaoh.

7

And Pharaoh's servants said4 unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go,16 that they may serve4 the LORD their God: knowest4 thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?1

8

And Moses and Aaron were brought again93 unto Pharaoh: and he said4 unto them, Go,3 serve3 the LORD your God: [but] who [are] they that shall go?6

9

And Moses said,4 We will go4 with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go;4 for we [must hold] a feast unto the LORD.

10

And he said4 unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go,17 and your little ones: look3 [to it]; for evil [is] before you.

11

Not so: go3 now ye [that are] men, and serve3 the LORD; for that ye did desire.18 And they were driven out17 from Pharaoh's presence.

12

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Stretch out3 thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up4 upon the land of Egypt, and eat4 every herb of the land, [even] all that the hail hath left.52

13

And Moses stretched forth4 his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought14 an east wind upon the land all that day, and all [that] night; [and] when it was morning, the east wind brought1 the locusts.

14

And the locusts went up4 over all the land of Egypt, and rested4 in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous [were they]; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

15

For they covered17 the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened;4 and they did eat4 every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left:52 and there remained8 not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

16

Then Pharaoh called2 for Moses and Aaron in haste;17 and he said,4 I have sinned1 against the LORD your God, and against you.

17

Now therefore forgive,3 I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat54 the LORD your God, that he may take away55 from me this death only.

18

And he went out4 from Pharaoh, and intreated4 the LORD.

19

And the LORD turned4 a mighty strong west wind, which took away4 the locusts, and cast4 them into the Red sea; there remained8 not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

20

But the LORD hardened17 Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.14

21

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Stretch out3 thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness [which] may be felt.55

22

And Moses stretched forth4 his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

23

They saw1 not one another, neither rose1 any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

24

And Pharaoh called4 unto Moses, and said,4 Go3 ye, serve3 the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed:93 let your little ones also go4 with you.

25

And Moses said,4 Thou must give4 us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice1 unto the LORD our God.

26

Our cattle also shall go4 with us; there shall not an hoof be left11 behind; for thereof must we take4 to serve2 the LORD our God; and we know4 not with what we must serve4 the LORD, until we come2 thither.

27

But the LORD hardened17 Pharaoh's heart, and he would1 not let them go.15

28

And Pharaoh said4 unto him, Get3 thee from me, take heed10 to thyself, see2 my face no more;55 for in [that] day thou seest2 my face thou shalt die.4

29

And Moses said,4 Thou hast spoken14 well, I will see2 thy face again55 no more.
