The Third Book of Moses, called Leviticus

Chapter 26

1

Ye shall make4 you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up55 a standing image, neither shall ye set4 up [any] image of stone in your land, to bow down99 unto it: for I [am] the LORD your God.

2

Ye shall keep4 my sabbaths, and reverence4 my sanctuary: I [am] the LORD.

3

If ye walk4 in my statutes, and keep4 my commandments, and do1 them;

4

Then I will give1 you rain in due season, and the land shall yield1 her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield4 their fruit.

5

And your threshing shall reach52 unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach55 unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat1 your bread to the full, and dwell1 in your land safely.

6

And I will give1 peace in the land, and ye shall lie down,1 and none shall make [you] afraid:56 and I will rid52 evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go4 through your land.

7

And ye shall chase1 your enemies,6 and they shall fall1 before you by the sword.

8

And five of you shall chase1 an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight:4 and your enemies6 shall fall1 before you by the sword.

9

For I will have respect1 unto you, and make you fruitful,52 and multiply52 you, and establish52 my covenant with you.

10

And ye shall eat1 old store,12 and bring forth55 the old because of the new.

11

And I will set1 my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor4 you.

12

And I will walk98 among you, and will be4 your God, and ye shall be4 my people.

13

I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you forth52 out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken4 the bands of your yoke, and made you go55 upright.

14

But if ye will not hearken4 unto me, and will not do4 all these commandments;

15

And if ye shall despise4 my statutes, or if your soul abhor4 my judgments, so that ye will not do2 all my commandments, [but] that ye break53 my covenant:

16

I also will do4 this unto you; I will even appoint52 over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume18 the eyes, and cause sorrow56 of heart: and ye shall sow1 your seed in vain, for your enemies6 shall eat1 it.

17

And I will set1 my face against you, and ye shall be slain8 before your enemies:6 they that hate6 you shall reign1 over you; and ye shall flee1 when none pursueth6 you.

18

And if ye will not yet for all this hearken4 unto me, then I will punish15 you seven times more1 for your sins.

19

And I will break1 the pride of your power; and I will make1 your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20

And your strength shall be spent1 in vain: for your land shall not yield4 her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield4 their fruits.

21

And if ye walk4 contrary unto me, and will4 not hearken2 unto me; I will bring seven times more1 plagues upon you according to your sins.

22

I will also send52 wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children,14 and destroy52 your cattle, and make you few in number;52 and your [high] ways shall be desolate.8

23

And if ye will not be reformed11 by me by these things, but will walk1 contrary unto me;

24

Then will I also walk1 contrary unto you, and will punish52 you yet seven times for your sins.

25

And I will bring52 a sword upon you, that shall avenge6 the quarrel of [my] covenant: and when ye are gathered8 together within your cities, I will send14 the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered8 into the hand of the enemy.6

26

[And] when I have broken2 the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake1 your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver [you] your bread again52 by weight: and ye shall eat,1 and not be satisfied.4

27

And if ye will not for all this hearken4 unto me, but walk1 contrary unto me;

28

Then I will walk1 contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise14 you seven times for your sins.

29

And ye shall eat1 the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.4

30

And I will destroy52 your high places, and cut down52 your images, and cast1 your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor1 you.

31

And I will make1 your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation,52 and I will not smell55 the savour of your sweet odours.

32

And I will bring the land into desolation:52 and your enemies6 which dwell6 therein shall be astonished1 at it.

33

And I will scatter17 you among the heathen, and will draw out52 a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

34

Then shall the land enjoy4 her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate,91 and ye [be] in your enemies'6 land; [even] then shall the land rest,4 and enjoy52 her sabbaths.

35

As long as it lieth desolate91 it shall rest;4 because it did not rest1 in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt2 upon it.

36

And upon them that are left12 [alive] of you I will send52 a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies;6 and the sound of a shaken12 leaf shall chase1 them; and they shall flee,1 as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall1 when none pursueth.6

37

And they shall fall1 one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth:6 and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.6

38

And ye shall perish1 among the heathen, and the land of your enemies6 shall eat1 you up.

39

And they that are left12 of you shall pine away11 in their iniquity in your enemies'6 lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away11 with them.

40

If they shall confess98 their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed1 against me, and that also they have walked1 contrary unto me;

41

And [that] I also have walked4 contrary unto them, and have brought52 them into the land of their enemies;6 if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled,11 and they then accept4 of the punishment of their iniquity:

42

Then will I remember1 my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember;4 and I will remember4 the land.

43

The land also shall be left11 of them, and shall enjoy4 her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate91 without them: and they shall accept4 of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised1 my judgments, and because their soul abhorred1 my statutes.

44

And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies,6 I will not cast them away,1 neither will I abhor1 them, to destroy them utterly,15 and to break53 my covenant with them: for I [am] the LORD their God.

45

But I will for their sakes remember1 the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth52 out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I [am] the LORD.

46

These [are] the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made1 between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
