The Book of Judges

Chapter 10

1

And after Abimelech there arose4 to defend53 Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt6 in Shamir in mount Ephraim.

2

And he judged4 Israel twenty and three years, and died,4 and was buried11 in Shamir.

3

And after him arose4 Jair, a Gileadite, and judged4 Israel twenty and two years.

4

And he had thirty sons that rode6 on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called4 Havothjair 2971 unto this day, which [are] in the land of Gilead.

5

And Jair died,4 and was buried11 in Camon.

6

And the children of Israel did2 evil again55 in the sight of the LORD, and served4 Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook4 the LORD, and served1 not him.

7

And the anger of the LORD was hot4 against Israel, and he sold4 them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

8

And that year they vexed4 and oppressed25 the children of Israel: eighteen 6240 years, all the children of Israel that [were] on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which [is] in Gilead.

9

Moreover the children of Ammon passed over4 Jordan to fight9 also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.4

10

And the children of Israel cried4 unto the LORD, saying,2 We have sinned1 against thee, both because we have forsaken1 our God, and also served4 Baalim.

11

And the LORD said4 unto the children of Israel, [Did] not [I deliver you] from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

12

The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress1 you; and ye cried4 to me, and I delivered55 you out of their hand.

13

Yet ye have forsaken1 me, and served4 other gods: wherefore I will deliver53 you no more.55

14

Go3 and cry3 unto the gods which ye have chosen;1 let them deliver55 you in the time of your tribulation.

15

And the children of Israel said4 unto the LORD, We have sinned:1 do3 thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver54 us only, we pray thee, this day.

16

And they put away55 the strange gods from among them, and served4 the LORD: and his soul was grieved4 for the misery of Israel.

17

Then the children of Ammon were gathered together,11 and encamped4 in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled11 themselves together, and encamped4 in Mizpeh.

18

And the people [and] princes of Gilead said4 one to another, What man [is he] that will begin55 to fight9 against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants6 of Gilead.
