The Second Book of the Kings

Chapter 21

1

Manasseh [was] twelve 6240 years old when he began to reign,2 and reigned1 fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name [was] Hephzibah.

2

And he did4 [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out52 before the children of Israel.

3

For he built up4 again4 the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed;14 and he reared up55 altars for Baal, and made4 a grove, as did1 Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped101 all the host of heaven, and served4 them.

4

And he built1 altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said,1 In Jerusalem will I put4 my name.

5

And he built4 altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

6

And he made his son pass52 through the fire, and observed times,22 and used enchantments,14 and dealt1 with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought2 much52 wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke [him] to anger.53

7

And he set4 a graven image of the grove that he had made1 in the house, of which the LORD said1 to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen1 out of all tribes of Israel, will I put4 my name for ever:

8

Neither will I make the feet of Israel move53 any more55 out of the land which I gave1 their fathers; only if they will observe4 to do2 according to all that I have commanded14 them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded14 them.

9

But they hearkened1 not: and Manasseh seduced55 them to do2 more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed52 before the children of Israel.

10

And the LORD spake17 by his servants the prophets, saying,2

11

Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done1 these abominations, [and] hath done wickedly52 above all that the Amorites did,1 which [were] before him, and hath made Judah also to sin55 with his idols:

12

Therefore thus saith1 the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I [am] bringing56 [such] evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth6 of it, both his ears shall tingle.4

13

And I will stretch1 over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe1 Jerusalem as [a man] wipeth4 a dish, wiping1 [it], and turning1 [it] upside down.

14

And I will forsake1 the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver1 them into the hand of their enemies;6 and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies;6

15

Because they have done1 [that which was] evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger,56 since the day their fathers came forth1 out of Egypt, even unto this day.

16

Moreover Manasseh shed1 innocent blood very much,53 till he had filled14 Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin,52 in doing2 [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD.

17

Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did,1 and his sin that he sinned,1 [are] they not written7 in the book of the chronicles 3117 of the kings of Judah?

18

And Manasseh slept4 with his fathers, and was buried11 in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned4 in his stead.

19

Amon [was] twenty and two years old when he began to reign,2 and he reigned1 two years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name [was] Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

20

And he did4 [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh did.1

21

And he walked4 in all the way that his father walked in,1 and served4 the idols that his father served,1 and worshipped101 them:

22

And he forsook4 the LORD God of his fathers, and walked1 not in the way of the LORD.

23

And the servants of Amon conspired4 against him, and slew55 the king in his own house.

24

And the people of the land slew55 all them that had conspired6 against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king55 in his stead.

25

Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did,1 [are] they not written7 in the book of the chronicles 3117 of the kings of Judah?

26

And he was buried4 in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza: and Josiah his son reigned4 in his stead.
