The Second Book of the Chronicles

Chapter 33

1

Manasseh [was] twelve 6240 years old when he began to reign,2 and he reigned1 fifty and five years in Jerusalem:

2

But did4 [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out52 before the children of Israel.

3

For he built4 again4 the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down,14 and he reared up55 altars for Baalim, and made4 groves, and worshipped101 all the host of heaven, and served4 them.

4

Also he built1 altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said,1 In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

5

And he built4 altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

6

And he caused his children to pass52 through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times,22 and used enchantments,14 and used witchcraft,14 and dealt1 with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought2 much52 evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.53

7

And he set4 a carved image, the idol which he had made,1 in the house of God, of which God had said1 to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen1 before all the tribes of Israel, will I put4 my name for ever:

8

Neither will I any more55 remove53 the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed52 for your fathers; so that they will take heed4 to do2 all that I have commanded14 them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.

9

So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants6 of Jerusalem to err,55 [and] to do2 worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed52 before the children of Israel.

10

And the LORD spake17 to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.52

11

Wherefore the LORD brought55 upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took4 Manasseh among the thorns, and bound4 him with fetters, and carried55 him to Babylon.

12

And when he was in affliction,53 he besought14 6440 the LORD his God, and humbled11 himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

13

And prayed101 unto him: and he was intreated11 of him, and heard4 his supplication, and brought him again55 to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew4 that the LORD he [was] God.

14

Now after this he built1 a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in2 at the fish gate, and compassed1 about Ophel, 6076 and raised it up a very great height,55 and put4 captains of war in all the fenced7 cities of Judah.

15

And he took away55 the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built1 in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast55 [them] out of the city.

16

And he repaired4 the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed4 thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded4 Judah to serve2 the LORD God of Israel.

17

Nevertheless the people did sacrifice6 still in the high places, [yet] unto the LORD their God only.

18

Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake18 to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they [are written] in the book of the kings of Israel.

19

His prayer also, and [how God] was intreated9 of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built1 high places, and set up52 groves and graven images, before he was humbled:9 behold, they [are] written7 among the sayings of the seers. 2335

20

So Manasseh slept4 with his fathers, and they buried4 him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned4 in his stead.

21

Amon [was] two and twenty years old when he began to reign,2 and reigned1 two years in Jerusalem.

22

But he did4 [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, as did1 Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed14 unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made,1 and served4 them;

23

And humbled8 not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled9 himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.52

24

And his servants conspired4 against him, and slew55 him in his own house.

25

But the people of the land slew55 all them that had conspired6 against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king55 in his stead.
