The Book of Job

Chapter 19

1

Then Job answered4 and said,4

2

How long will ye vex55 my soul, and break17 me in pieces with words?

3

These ten times have ye reproached55 me: ye are not ashamed4 [that] ye make yourselves strange55 to me.

4

And be it indeed [that] I have erred,1 mine error remaineth4 with myself.

5

If indeed ye will magnify55 [yourselves] against me, and plead55 against me my reproach:

6

Know3 now that God hath overthrown14 me, and hath compassed52 me with his net.

7

Behold, I cry out4 of wrong, but I am not heard:11 I cry aloud,17 but [there is] no judgment.

8

He hath fenced up1 my way that I cannot pass,4 and he hath set4 darkness in my paths.

9

He hath stripped52 me of my glory, and taken55 the crown [from] my head.

10

He hath destroyed4 me on every side, and I am gone:4 and mine hope hath he removed55 like a tree.

11

He hath also kindled55 his wrath against me, and he counteth4 me unto him as [one of] his enemies.

12

His troops come4 together, and raise up4 their way against me, and encamp4 round about my tabernacle.

13

He hath put my brethren far52 from me, and mine acquaintance6 are verily estranged1 from me.

14

My kinsfolk have failed,1 and my familiar friends30 have forgotten1 me.

15

They that dwell6 in mine house, and my maids, count4 me for a stranger:5 I am an alien in their sight.

16

I called1 my servant, and he gave [me] no answer;4 I intreated101 him with my mouth.

17

My breath is strange1 to my wife, though I intreated2 for the children's [sake] of mine own body.

18

Yea, young children despised1 me; I arose,4 and they spake17 against me.

19

All my inward friends abhorred14 me: and they whom I loved1 are turned8 against me.

20

My bone cleaveth1 to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped101 with the skin of my teeth.

21

Have pity3 upon me, have pity3 upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched1 me.

22

Why do ye persecute4 me as God, and are not satisfied4 with my flesh?

23

Oh that4 my words were now written!11 oh that4 they were printed93 in a book!

24

That they were graven11 with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

25

For I know1 [that] my redeemer6 liveth, and [that] he shall stand4 at the latter [day] upon the earth:

26

And [though] after my skin [worms] destroy14 this [body], yet in my flesh shall I see4 God:

27

Whom I shall see4 for myself, and mine eyes shall behold,1 and not another;5 [though] my reins be consumed1 within me.

28

But ye should say,4 Why persecute4 we him, seeing the root of the matter is found8 in me?

29

Be ye afraid3 of the sword: for wrath [bringeth] the punishments of the sword, that ye may know4 [there is] a judgment. 1779
