Chapter 42

1

To the chief Musician,18 Maschil, 7919 56 for the sons of Korah.
As the hart panteth4 after the water brooks, so panteth4 my soul after thee, O God.

2

My soul thirsteth1 for God, for the living God: when shall I come4 and appear11 before God?

3

My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually 3117 say2 unto me, Where [is] thy God?

4

When I remember4 these [things], I pour out4 my soul in me: for I had gone4 with the multitude, I went101 with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.6

5

Why art thou cast down,113 O my soul? and [why] art thou disquieted4 in me? hope54 thou in God: for I shall yet praise55 him [for] the help of his countenance.

6

O my God, my soul is cast down113 within me: therefore will I remember4 thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. 4705

7

Deep calleth6 unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone1 over me.

8

[Yet] the LORD will command17 his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song [shall be] with me, [and] my prayer unto the God of my life.

9

I will say4 unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten1 me? why go4 I mourning6 because of the oppression of the enemy?6

10

[As] with a sword in my bones, mine enemies6 reproach14 me; while they say2 daily 3117 unto me, Where [is] thy God?

11

Why art thou cast down,113 O my soul? and why art thou disquieted4 within me? hope54 thou in God: for I shall yet praise55 him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and my God.
