Chapter 107

1

O give thanks54 unto the LORD, for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

2

Let the redeemed7 of the LORD say4 [so], whom he hath redeemed1 from the hand of the enemy;

3

And gathered14 them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

4

They wandered1 in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found1 no city to dwell in.

5

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted101 in them.

6

Then they cried4 unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered55 them out of their distresses.

7

And he led them forth55 by the right way, that they might go2 to a city of habitation.

8

Oh that [men] would praise55 the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works12 to the children of men!

9

For he satisfieth52 the longing6 soul, and filleth14 the hungry soul with goodness.

10

Such as sit in6 darkness and in the shadow of death, [being] bound in affliction and iron;

11

Because they rebelled52 against the words of God, and contemned1 the counsel of the most High:

12

Therefore he brought down55 their heart with labour; they fell down,1 and [there was] none to help.6

13

Then they cried4 unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved55 them out of their distresses.

14

He brought them out55 of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake17 their bands in sunder.

15

Oh that [men] would praise55 the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works12 to the children of men!

16

For he hath broken14 the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.14

17

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.101

18

Their soul abhorreth17 all manner of meat; and they draw near55 unto the gates of death.

19

Then they cry4 unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saveth55 them out of their distresses.

20

He sent4 his word, and healed4 them, and delivered17 [them] from their destructions.

21

Oh that [men] would praise55 the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works12 to the children of men!

22

And let them sacrifice4 the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare17 his works with rejoicing.

23

They that go down6 to the sea in ships, that do6 business in great waters;

24

These see1 the works of the LORD, and his wonders12 in the deep.

25

For he commandeth,4 and raiseth55 the stormy wind, which lifteth up34 the waves thereof.

26

They mount up4 to the heaven, they go down4 again to the depths: their soul is melted113 because of trouble.

27

They reel to and fro,4 and stagger4 like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.101

28

Then they cry4 unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out55 of their distresses.

29

He maketh55 the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.4

30

Then are they glad4 because they be quiet;4 so he bringeth55 them unto their desired haven.

31

Oh that [men] would praise55 the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works12 to the children of men!

32

Let them exalt34 him also in the congregation of the people, and praise17 him in the assembly of the elders.

33

He turneth4 rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings 4161 into dry ground;

34

A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell6 therein.

35

He turneth4 the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. 4161

36

And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,55 that they may prepare34 a city for habitation;

37

And sow4 the fields, and plant4 vineyards, which may yield4 fruits of increase.

38

He blesseth17 them also, so that they are multiplied4 greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.55

39

Again, they are minished4 and brought low4 through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

40

He poureth6 contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander55 in the wilderness, [where there is] no way.

41

Yet setteth he the poor on high17 from affliction, and maketh4 [him] families like a flock.

42

The righteous shall see4 [it], and rejoice:4 and all iniquity shall stop1 her mouth.

43

Whoso [is] wise, and will observe4 these [things], even they shall understand113 the lovingkindness of the LORD.
