Chapter 139

1

To the chief Musician,18 A Psalm of David.
O LORD, thou hast searched1 me, and known4 [me].

2

Thou knowest1 my downsitting2 and mine uprising,2 thou understandest1 my thought afar off.

3

Thou compassest14 my path and my lying down, and art acquainted52 [with] all my ways.

4

For [there is] not a word in my tongue, [but], lo, O LORD, thou knowest1 it altogether.

5

Thou hast beset1 me behind and before, and laid4 thine hand upon me.

6

[Such] knowledge [is] too wonderful 6383 for me; it is high,8 I cannot 3201 4 [attain] unto it.

7

Whither shall I go4 from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee4 from thy presence?

8

If I ascend up4 into heaven, thou [art] there: if I make my bed55 in hell, behold, thou [art there].

9

[If] I take4 the wings of the morning, [and] dwell4 in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10

Even there shall thy hand lead55 me, and thy right hand shall hold me.4

11

If I say,4 Surely the darkness shall cover4 me; even the night shall be light about me.

12

Yea, the darkness hideth55 not from thee; but the night shineth55 as the day: the darkness and the light [are] both alike [to thee].

13

For thou hast possessed1 my reins: thou hast covered4 me in my mother's womb.

14

I will praise55 thee; for I am fearfully12 [and] wonderfully made:8 marvellous12 [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth6 right well.

15

My substance was not hid8 from thee, when I was made27 in secret, [and] curiously wrought27 in the lowest parts of the earth.

16

Thine eyes did see1 my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all [my members] were written,11 [which] in continuance were fashioned,27 when [as yet there was] none of them.

17

How precious1 also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great1 is the sum of them!

18

[If] I should count4 them, they are more in number4 than the sand: when I awake,52 I am still with thee.

19

Surely thou wilt slay4 the wicked, O God: depart3 from me therefore, ye bloody men.

20

For they speak4 against thee wickedly, [and] thine enemies take1 [thy name] in vain.

21

Do not I hate4 them, O LORD, that hate18 thee? and am not I grieved113 with those that rise up against thee?

22

I hate1 them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.6

23

Search3 me, O God, and know3 my heart: try3 me, and know3 my thoughts:

24

And see3 if [there be any] wicked way in me, and lead3 me in the way everlasting.
