The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 32

1

Behold, a king shall reign4 in righteousness, and princes shall rule4 in judgment.

2

And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

3

And the eyes of them that see6 shall not be dim,4 and the ears of them that hear6 shall hearken.4

4

The heart also of the rash12 shall understand4 knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready17 to speak15 plainly.

5

The vile person shall be no more called11 liberal, nor the churl said11 [to be] bountiful.

6

For the vile person will speak17 villany, and his heart will work4 iniquity, to practise2 hypocrisy, and to utter15 error against the LORD, to make empty53 the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.55

7

The instruments also of the churl [are] evil: he deviseth1 wicked devices to destroy15 the poor 6035 with lying words, even when the needy speaketh15 right.

8

But the liberal deviseth1 liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.4

9

Rise up,3 ye women that are at ease; hear3 my voice, ye careless6 daughters; give ear54 unto my speech.

10

Many days and years shall ye be troubled,4 ye careless women:6 for the vintage shall fail,1 the gathering shall not come.4

11

Tremble,3 ye women that are at ease; be troubled,3 ye careless ones:6 strip2 you, and make you bare,3 and gird [sackcloth] upon [your] loins.

12

They shall lament6 for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful6 vine.

13

Upon the land of my people shall come up4 thorns [and] briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy [in] the joyous city:

14

Because the palaces shall be forsaken;27 the multitude of the city shall be left;27 the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;

15

Until the spirit be poured11 upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, 3759 and the fruitful field 3759 be counted11 for a forest.

16

Then judgment shall dwell1 in the wilderness, and righteousness remain4 in the fruitful field. 3759

17

And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness53 and assurance for ever.

18

And my people shall dwell1 in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;

19

When it shall hail,1 coming down2 on the forest; and the city shall be low4 in a low place.

20

Blessed [are] ye that sow6 beside all waters, that send forth18 [thither] the feet of the ox and the ass.
