The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 45

1

Thus saith1 the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden,52 to subdue2 nations before him; and I will loose17 the loins of kings, to open2 before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;11

2

I will go4 before thee, and make the crooked places7 straight:17 3474 55 I will break in pieces17 the gates of brass, and cut in sunder17 the bars of iron:

3

And I will give1 thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know4 that I, the LORD, which call6 [thee] by thy name, [am] the God of Israel.

4

For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called4 thee by thy name: I have surnamed17 thee, though thou hast not known1 me.

5

I [am] the LORD, and [there is] none else, [there is] no God beside me: I girded17 thee, though thou hast not known1 me:

6

That they may know4 from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that [there is] none beside me. I [am] the LORD, and [there is] none else.

7

I form6 the light, and create6 darkness: I make6 peace, and create6 evil: I the LORD do6 all these [things].

8

Drop down,54 ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down4 righteousness: let the earth open,4 and let them bring forth4 salvation, and let righteousness spring up55 together; I the LORD have created1 it.

9

Woe unto him that striveth5 with his Maker!6 [Let] the potsherd [strive] with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say4 to him that fashioneth6 it, What makest4 thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10

Woe unto him that saith6 unto [his] father, What begettest55 thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?4

11

Thus saith1 the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker,6 Ask3 me of things to come6 concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command17 ye me.

12

I have made1 the earth, and created1 man upon it: I, [even] my hands, have stretched out1 the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.14

13

I have raised him up52 in righteousness, and I will direct17 all his ways: he shall build4 my city, and he shall let go17 my captives, not for price nor reward, saith1 the LORD of hosts.

14

Thus saith1 the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over4 unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come4 after thee; in chains they shall come over,4 and they shall fall down101 unto thee, they shall make supplication101 unto thee, [saying], Surely God [is] in thee; and [there is] none else, [there is] no God.

15

Verily thou [art] a God that hidest102 thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.56

16

They shall be ashamed,1 and also confounded,8 all of them: they shall go1 to confusion together [that are] makers of idols.

17

[But] Israel shall be saved8 in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed4 nor confounded11 world without end. 5703

18

For thus saith1 the LORD that created6 the heavens; God himself that formed6 the earth and made6 it; he hath established31 it, he created1 it not in vain, he formed1 it to be inhabited:2 I [am] the LORD; and [there is] none else.

19

I have not spoken14 in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said1 not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek16 ye me in vain: I the LORD speak6 righteousness, I declare56 things that are right.

20

Assemble10 yourselves and come;3 draw near100 together, ye [that are] escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge1 that set up6 the wood of their graven image, and pray102 unto a god [that] cannot save.55

21

Tell54 ye, and bring [them] near;54 yea, let them take counsel11 together: who hath declared52 this from ancient time? [who] hath told52 it from that time? [have] not I the LORD? and [there is] no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour;56 [there is] none beside me.

22

Look3 unto me, and be ye saved,10 all the ends of the earth: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else.

23

I have sworn8 by myself, the word is gone out1 of my mouth [in] righteousness, and shall not return,4 That unto me every knee shall bow,4 every tongue shall swear.11

24

Surely, shall [one] say,1 in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: [even] to him shall [men] come;4 and all that are incensed12 against him shall be ashamed.4

25

In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified,4 and shall glory.101
