The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 55

1

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come3 ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come3 ye, buy,3 and eat;3 yea, come,3 buy3 wine and milk without money and without price.

2

Wherefore do ye spend4 money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for [that which] satisfieth not? hearken3 diligently2 unto me, and eat3 ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight101 itself in fatness.

3

Incline54 your ear, and come3 unto me: hear,3 and your soul shall live;4 and I will make4 an everlasting covenant with you, [even] the sure12 mercies of David.

4

Behold, I have given1 him [for] a witness to the people, a leader and commander18 to the people.

5

Behold, thou shalt call4 a nation [that] thou knowest4 not, and nations [that] knew1 not thee shall run4 unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified14 thee.

6

Seek3 ye the LORD while he may be found,9 call3 ye upon him while he is near:

7

Let the wicked forsake4 his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return4 unto the LORD, and he will have mercy17 upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly55 pardon.2

8

For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith7 the LORD.

9

For [as] the heavens are higher1 than the earth, so are my ways higher1 than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10

For as the rain cometh down,4 and the snow from heaven, and returneth4 not thither, but watereth52 the earth, and maketh it bring forth52 and bud,52 that it may give1 seed to the sower,6 and bread to the eater:6

11

So shall my word be that goeth forth4 out of my mouth: it shall not return4 unto me void, but it shall accomplish1 that which I please,1 and it shall prosper52 [in the thing] whereto I sent1 it.

12

For ye shall go out4 with joy, and be led forth93 with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth4 before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap4 [their] hands.

13

Instead of the thorn shall come up4 the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up4 the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign [that] shall not be cut off.11
