The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 66

1

Thus saith1 the LORD, The heaven [is] my throne, and the earth [is] my footstool: 1916 where [is] the house that ye build4 unto me? and where [is] the place of my rest?

2

For all those [things] hath mine hand made,1 and all those [things] have been, saith7 the LORD: but to this [man] will I look,55 [even] to [him that is] poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

3

He that killeth6 an ox [is as if] he slew56 a man; he that sacrificeth6 a lamb, [as if] he cut off a dog's neck;6 he that offereth56 an oblation, [as if he offered] swine's blood; he that burneth56 incense, [as if] he blessed18 an idol. Yea, they have chosen1 their own ways, and their soul delighteth1 in their abominations.

4

I also will choose4 their delusions, and will bring55 their fears upon them; because when I called,1 none did answer;6 when I spake,14 they did not hear:1 but they did4 evil before mine eyes, and chose1 [that] in which I delighted1 not.

5

Hear3 the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated6 you, that cast you out18 for my name's sake, said,1 Let the LORD be glorified:4 but he shall appear12 to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.4

6

A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth18 recompence to his enemies.6

7

Before she travailed,4 she brought forth;1 before her pain came,4 she was delivered52 of a man child.

8

Who hath heard1 such a thing? who hath seen1 such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth93 in one day? [or] shall a nation be born11 at once? for as soon as Zion travailed,1 she brought forth1 her children.

9

Shall I bring to the birth,55 and not cause to bring forth?55 saith4 the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth,56 and shut1 [the womb]? saith1 thy God.

10

Rejoice3 ye with Jerusalem, and be glad3 with her, all ye that love6 her: rejoice3 for joy with her, all ye that mourn102 for her:

11

That ye may suck,4 and be satisfied1 with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out,4 and be delighted98 with the abundance of her glory.

12

For thus saith1 the LORD, Behold, I will extend6 peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing6 stream: then shall ye suck,1 ye shall be borne11 upon [her] sides, and be dandled51 upon [her] knees.

13

As one whom his mother comforteth,17 so will I comfort17 you; and ye shall be comforted29 in Jerusalem.

14

And when ye see1 [this], your heart shall rejoice,1 and your bones shall flourish4 like an herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known8 toward his servants, and [his] indignation1 toward his enemies.6

15

For, behold, the LORD will come4 with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render53 his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

16

For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead12 with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.1

17

They that sanctify102 themselves, and purify102 themselves in the gardens behind one [tree] in the midst, eating6 swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed4 together, saith7 the LORD.

18

For I [know] their works and their thoughts: it shall come,6 that I will gather15 all nations and tongues; and they shall come,1 and see1 my glory.

19

And I will set1 a sign among them, and I will send14 those that escape of them unto the nations, [to] Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw6 the bow, [to] Tubal, and Javan, [to] the isles afar off, that have not heard1 my fame, neither have seen1 my glory; and they shall declare52 my glory among the Gentiles.

20

And they shall bring52 all your brethren [for] an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith1 the LORD, as the children of Israel bring55 an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

21

And I will also take4 of them for priests [and] for Levites, saith1 the LORD.

22

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make,6 shall remain6 before me, saith7 the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.4

23

And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come4 to worship99 before me, saith1 the LORD.

24

And they shall go forth,1 and look1 upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed6 against me: for their worm shall not die,4 neither shall their fire be quenched;4 and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
