The Book of Zechariah

Chapter 11

1

Open3 thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour4 thy cedars.

2

Howl,54 fir tree; for the cedar is fallen;1 because the mighty are spoiled:27 howl,54 O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage 1219 7 is come down.1

3

[There is] a voice of the howling of the shepherds;6 for their glory is spoiled:27 a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.27

4

Thus saith1 the LORD my God; Feed3 the flock of the slaughter;

5

Whose possessors6 slay4 them, and hold themselves not guilty:4 and they that sell6 them say,4 Blessed7 [be] the LORD; for I am rich:55 and their own shepherds6 pity4 them not.

6

For I will no more pity4 the inhabitants6 of the land, saith7 the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver56 the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite14 the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver55 [them].

7

And I will feed4 the flock of slaughter, [even] you, O poor of the flock. And I took4 unto me two staves; the one I called1 Beauty, and the other I called1 Bands;6 and I fed4 the flock.

8

Three shepherds6 also I cut off55 in one month; and my soul lothed4 them, and their soul also abhorred1 me.

9

Then said4 I, I will not feed4 you: that that dieth,5 let it die;4 and that that is to be cut off,12 let it be cut off;11 and let the rest12 eat4 every one the flesh of another.

10

And I took4 my staff, [even] Beauty, and cut it asunder,4 that I might break53 my covenant which I had made1 with all the people.

11

And it was broken93 in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited6 upon me knew4 that it [was] the word of the LORD.

12

And I said4 unto them, If ye think good, give3 [me] my price; and if not, forbear.3 So they weighed4 for my price thirty [pieces] of silver.

13

And the LORD said4 unto me, Cast54 it unto the potter:6 a goodly price that I was prised1 at of them. And I took4 the thirty [pieces] of silver, and cast55 them to the potter6 in the house of the LORD.

14

Then I cut asunder4 mine other staff, [even] Bands,6 that I might break53 the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

15

And the LORD said4 unto me, Take3 unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.6

16

For, lo, I will raise up56 a shepherd6 in the land, [which] shall not visit4 those that be cut off,12 neither shall seek17 the young one, nor heal17 that that is broken,12 nor feed46 that that standeth12 still: but he shall eat4 the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.17

17

Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth6 the flock! the sword [shall be] upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean2 dried up,4 and his right eye shall be utterly2 darkened.4
