Chapter 10

kai proskalesamenoV touV dwdeka maqhtaV autou edwken autoiV exousian pneumatwn akaqartwn wste ekballein auta kai qerapeuein pasan noson kai pasan malakian
10:1 And when he had called unto [him] his twelve disciples, he gave them power [against] unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

twn de dwdeka apostolwn ta onomata estin tauta prwtoV simwn o legomenoV petroV kai andreaV o adelfoV autou iakwboV o tou zebedaiou kai iwannhV o adelfoV autou
10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James [the son] of Zebedee, and John his brother;

filippoV kai barqolomaioV qwmaV kai matqaioV o telwnhV iakwboV o tou alfaiou kai lebbaioV o epiklhqeiV qaddaioV
10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

simwn o kananithV kai ioudaV iskariwthV o kai paradouV auton
10:4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

toutouV touV dwdeka apesteilen o ihsouV paraggeilaV autoiV legwn eiV odon eqnwn mh apelqhte kai eiV polin samareitwn mh eiselqhte
10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into [any] city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

poreuesqe de mallon proV ta probata ta apolwlota oikou israhl
10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

poreuomenoi de khrussete legonteV oti hggiken h basileia twn ouranwn
10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

asqenountaV qerapeuete leprouV kaqarizete nekrouV egeirete daimonia ekballete dwrean elabete dwrean dote
10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

10:9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

mh phran eiV odon mhde duo citwnaV mhde upodhmata mhde rabdon axioV gar o ergathV thV trofhV autou estin
10:10 Nor scrip for [your] journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

10:11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

eisercomenoi de eiV thn oikian aspasasqe authn
10:12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

kai ean men h h oikia axia elqetw h eirhnh umwn ep authn ean de mh h axia h eirhnh umwn proV umaV epistrafhtw
10:13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14

kai oV ean mh dexhtai umaV mhde akoush touV logouV umwn exercomenoi thV oikiaV h thV polewV ekeinhV ektinaxate ton koniorton twn podwn umwn
10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

amhn legw umin anektoteron estai gh sodomwn kai gomorrwn en hmera krisewV h th polei ekeinh
10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

idou egw apostellw umaV wV probata en mesw lukwn ginesqe oun fronimoi wV oi ofeiV kai akeraioi wV ai peristerai
10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

prosecete de apo twn anqrwpwn paradwsousin gar umaV eiV sunedria kai en taiV sunagwgaiV autwn mastigwsousin umaV
10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18

kai epi hgemonaV de kai basileiV acqhsesqe eneken emou eiV marturion autoiV kai toiV eqnesin
10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19

otan de paradidwsin umaV mh merimnhshte pwV h ti lalhshte doqhsetai gar umin en ekeinh th wra ti lalhsete
10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20

ou gar umeiV este oi lalounteV alla to pneuma tou patroV umwn to laloun en umin
10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21

paradwsei de adelfoV adelfon eiV qanaton kai pathr teknon kai epanasthsontai tekna epi goneiV kai qanatwsousin autouV
10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against [their] parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22

kai esesqe misoumenoi upo pantwn dia to onoma mou o de upomeinaV eiV teloV outoV swqhsetai
10:22 And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23

otan de diwkwsin umaV en th polei tauth feugete eiV thn allhn amhn gar legw umin ou mh teleshte taV poleiV tou israhl ewV an elqh o uioV tou anqrwpou
10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

ouk estin maqhthV uper ton didaskalon oude douloV uper ton kurion autou
10:24 The disciple is not above [his] master, nor the servant above his lord.

25

arketon tw maqhth ina genhtai wV o didaskaloV autou kai o douloV wV o kurioV autou ei ton oikodespothn beelzeboul ekalesan posw mallon touV oikiakouV autou
10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more [shall they call] them of his household?

mh oun fobhqhte autouV ouden gar estin kekalummenon o ouk apokalufqhsetai kai krupton o ou gnwsqhsetai
10:26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

27

o legw umin en th skotia eipate en tw fwti kai o eiV to ouV akouete khruxate epi twn dwmatwn
10:27 What I tell you in darkness, [that] speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, [that] preach ye upon the housetops.

28

kai mh fobhqhte apo twn apokteinontwn to swma thn de yuchn mh dunamenwn apokteinai fobhqhte de mallon ton dunamenon kai yuchn kai swma apolesai en geennh
10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29

ouci duo strouqia assariou pwleitai kai en ex autwn ou peseitai epi thn ghn aneu tou patroV umwn
10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30

umwn de kai ai triceV thV kefalhV pasai hriqmhmenai eisin
10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31

mh oun fobhqhte pollwn strouqiwn diaferete umeiV
10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32

paV oun ostiV omologhsei en emoi emprosqen twn anqrwpwn omologhsw kagw en autw emprosqen tou patroV mou tou en ouranoiV
10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33

ostiV d an arnhshtai me emprosqen twn anqrwpwn arnhsomai auton kagw emprosqen tou patroV mou tou en ouranoiV
10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34

mh nomishte oti hlqon balein eirhnhn epi thn ghn ouk hlqon balein eirhnhn alla macairan
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35

hlqon gar dicasai anqrwpon kata tou patroV autou kai qugatera kata thV mhtroV authV kai numfhn kata thV penqeraV authV
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36

kai ecqroi tou anqrwpou oi oikiakoi autou
10:36 And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household.

37

o filwn patera h mhtera uper eme ouk estin mou axioV kai o filwn uion h qugatera uper eme ouk estin mou axioV
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38

kai oV ou lambanei ton stauron autou kai akolouqei opisw mou ouk estin mou axioV
10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39

o eurwn thn yuchn autou apolesei authn kai o apolesaV thn yuchn autou eneken emou eurhsei authn
10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40

o decomenoV umaV eme decetai kai o eme decomenoV decetai ton aposteilanta me
10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41

o decomenoV profhthn eiV onoma profhtou misqon profhtou lhyetai kai o decomenoV dikaion eiV onoma dikaiou misqon dikaiou lhyetai
10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

kai oV ean potish ena twn mikrwn toutwn pothrion yucrou monon eiV onoma maqhtou amhn legw umin ou mh apolesh ton misqon autou
10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
