Chapter 7

1

kai periepatei o ihsouV meta tauta en th galilaia ou gar hqelen en th ioudaia peripatein oti ezhtoun auton oi ioudaioi apokteinai
7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

2

hn de egguV h eorth twn ioudaiwn h skhnophgia
7:2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.

3

eipon oun proV auton oi adelfoi autou metabhqi enteuqen kai upage eiV thn ioudaian ina kai oi maqhtai sou qewrhswsin ta erga sou a poieiV
7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

oudeiV gar en kruptw ti poiei kai zhtei autoV en parrhsia einai ei tauta poieiV fanerwson seauton tw kosmw
7:4 For [there is] no man [that] doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

oude gar oi adelfoi autou episteuon eiV auton
7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

legei oun autoiV o ihsouV o kairoV o emoV oupw parestin o de kairoV o umeteroV pantote estin etoimoV
7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

ou dunatai o kosmoV misein umaV eme de misei oti egw marturw peri autou oti ta erga autou ponhra estin
7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

umeiV anabhte eiV thn eorthn tauthn egw oupw anabainw eiV thn eorthn tauthn oti o kairoV o emoV oupw peplhrwtai
7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

tauta de eipwn autoiV emeinen en th galilaia
7:9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode [still] in Galilee.

10

wV de anebhsan oi adelfoi autou tote kai autoV anebh eiV thn eorthn ou fanerwV all wV en kruptw
7:10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

11

oi oun ioudaioi ezhtoun auton en th eorth kai elegon pou estin ekeinoV
7:11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

12

kai goggusmoV poluV peri autou hn en toiV ocloiV oi men elegon oti agaqoV estin alloi de elegon ou alla plana ton oclon
7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

13

oudeiV mentoi parrhsia elalei peri autou dia ton fobon twn ioudaiwn
7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

14

hdh de thV eorthV mesoushV anebh o ihsouV eiV to ieron kai edidasken
7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

15

kai eqaumazon oi ioudaioi legonteV pwV outoV grammata oiden mh memaqhkwV
7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

16

apekriqh autoiV o ihsouV kai eipen h emh didach ouk estin emh alla tou pemyantoV me
7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

17

ean tiV qelh to qelhma autou poiein gnwsetai peri thV didachV poteron ek tou qeou estin h egw ap emautou lalw
7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.

18

o af eautou lalwn thn doxan thn idian zhtei o de zhtwn thn doxan tou pemyantoV auton outoV alhqhV estin kai adikia en autw ouk estin
7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

19

ou mwshV dedwken umin ton nomon kai oudeiV ex umwn poiei ton nomon ti me zhteite apokteinai
7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and [yet] none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

20

apekriqh o ocloV kai eipen daimonion eceiV tiV se zhtei apokteinai
7:20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

21

apekriqh o ihsouV kai eipen autoiV en ergon epoihsa kai panteV qaumazete
7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

22

dia touto mwshV dedwken umin thn peritomhn ouc oti ek tou mwsewV estin all ek twn paterwn kai en sabbatw peritemnete anqrwpon
7:22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

23

ei peritomhn lambanei anqrwpoV en sabbatw ina mh luqh o nomoV mwsewV emoi colate oti olon anqrwpon ugih epoihsa en sabbatw
7:23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

24

mh krinete kat oyin alla thn dikaian krisin krinate
7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

25

elegon oun tineV ek twn ierosolumitwn ouc outoV estin on zhtousin apokteinai
7:25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

26

kai ide parrhsia lalei kai ouden autw legousin mhpote alhqwV egnwsan oi arconteV oti outoV estin alhqwV o cristoV
7:26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

27

alla touton oidamen poqen estin o de cristoV otan erchtai oudeiV ginwskei poqen estin
7:27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

28

ekraxen oun en tw ierw didaskwn o ihsouV kai legwn kame oidate kai oidate poqen eimi kai ap emautou ouk elhluqa all estin alhqinoV o pemyaV me on umeiV ouk oidate
7:28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

29

egw de oida auton oti par autou eimi kakeinoV me apesteilen
7:29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

30

ezhtoun oun auton piasai kai oudeiV epebalen ep auton thn ceira oti oupw elhluqei h wra autou
7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

31

polloi de ek tou oclou episteusan eiV auton kai elegon oti o cristoV otan elqh mhti pleiona shmeia toutwn poihsei wn outoV epoihsen
7:31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this [man] hath done?

32

hkousan oi farisaioi tou oclou gogguzontoV peri autou tauta kai apesteilan oi farisaioi kai oi arciereiV uphretaV ina piaswsin auton
7:32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

33

eipen oun autoiV o ihsouV eti mikron cronon meq umwn eimi kai upagw proV ton pemyanta me
7:33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and [then] I go unto him that sent me.

34

zhthsete me kai ouc eurhsete kai opou eimi egw umeiV ou dunasqe elqein
7:34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find [me]: and where I am, [thither] ye cannot come.

35

eipon oun oi ioudaioi proV eautouV pou outoV mellei poreuesqai oti hmeiV ouc eurhsomen auton mh eiV thn diasporan twn ellhnwn mellei poreuesqai kai didaskein touV ellhnaV
7:35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

36

tiV estin outoV o logoV on eipen zhthsete me kai ouc eurhsete kai opou eimi egw umeiV ou dunasqe elqein
7:36 What [manner of] saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find [me]: and where I am, [thither] ye cannot come?

37

en de th escath hmera th megalh thV eorthV eisthkei o ihsouV kai ekraxen legwn ean tiV diya ercesqw proV me kai pinetw
7:37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38

o pisteuwn eiV eme kaqwV eipen h grafh potamoi ek thV koiliaV autou reusousin udatoV zwntoV
7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39

touto de eipen peri tou pneumatoV ou emellon lambanein oi pisteuonteV eiV auton oupw gar hn pneuma agion oti o ihsouV oudepw edoxasqh
7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

40

polloi oun ek tou oclou akousanteV ton logon elegon outoV estin alhqwV o profhthV
7:40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

41

alloi elegon outoV estin o cristoV alloi de elegon mh gar ek thV galilaiaV o cristoV ercetai
7:41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

42

ouci h grafh eipen oti ek tou spermatoV dabid kai apo bhqleem thV kwmhV opou hn dabid o cristoV ercetai
7:42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

43

scisma oun en tw oclw egeneto di auton
7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.

44

tineV de hqelon ex autwn piasai auton all oudeiV epebalen ep auton taV ceiraV
7:44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

45

hlqon oun oi uphretai proV touV arciereiV kai farisaiouV kai eipon autoiV ekeinoi diati ouk hgagete auton
7:45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?

46

apekriqhsan oi uphretai oudepote outwV elalhsen anqrwpoV wV outoV o anqrwpoV
7:46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

47

apekriqhsan oun autoiV oi farisaioi mh kai umeiV peplanhsqe
7:47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?

48

mh tiV ek twn arcontwn episteusen eiV auton h ek twn farisaiwn
7:48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?

49

all o ocloV outoV o mh ginwskwn ton nomon epikataratoi eisin
7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

50

legei nikodhmoV proV autouV o elqwn nuktoV proV auton eiV wn ex autwn
7:50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)

51

mh o nomoV hmwn krinei ton anqrwpon ean mh akoush par autou proteron kai gnw ti poiei
7:51 Doth our law judge [any] man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

52

apekriqhsan kai eipon autw mh kai su ek thV galilaiaV ei ereunhson kai ide oti profhthV ek thV galilaiaV ouk eghgertai
7:52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

53

kai eporeuqh ekastoV eiV ton oikon autou
7:53 And every man went unto his own house.
