Chapter 5

1

peri de twn cronwn kai twn kairwn adelfoi ou creian ecete umin grafesqai
5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2

autoi gar akribwV oidate oti h hmera kuriou wV klepthV en nukti outwV ercetai
5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3

otan gar legwsin eirhnh kai asfaleia tote aifnidioV autoiV efistatai oleqroV wsper h wdin th en gastri ecoush kai ou mh ekfugwsin
5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

umeiV de adelfoi ouk este en skotei ina h hmera umaV wV klepthV katalabh
5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

panteV umeiV uioi fwtoV este kai uioi hmeraV ouk esmen nuktoV oude skotouV
5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

ara oun mh kaqeudwmen wV kai oi loipoi alla grhgorwmen kai nhfwmen
5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.

7

oi gar kaqeudonteV nuktoV kaqeudousin kai oi mequskomenoi nuktoV mequousin
5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

hmeiV de hmeraV onteV nhfwmen endusamenoi qwraka pistewV kai agaphV kai perikefalaian elpida swthriaV
5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

oti ouk eqeto hmaV o qeoV eiV orghn all eiV peripoihsin swthriaV dia tou kuriou hmwn ihsou cristou
5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

tou apoqanontoV uper hmwn ina eite grhgorwmen eite kaqeudwmen ama sun autw zhswmen
5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11

dio parakaleite allhlouV kai oikodomeite eiV ton ena kaqwV kai poieite
5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

erwtwmen de umaV adelfoi eidenai touV kopiwntaV en umin kai proistamenouV umwn en kuriw kai nouqetountaV umaV
5:12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13

kai hgeisqai autouV uper ekperissou en agaph dia to ergon autwn eirhneuete en eautoiV
5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. [And] be at peace among yourselves.

14

parakaloumen de umaV adelfoi nouqeteite touV ataktouV paramuqeisqe touV oligoyucouV antecesqe twn asqenwn makroqumeite proV pantaV
5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all [men].

orate mh tiV kakon anti kakou tini apodw alla pantote to agaqon diwkete kai eiV allhlouV kai eiV pantaV
5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any [man]; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all [men].

pantote cairete
5:16 Rejoice evermore.

adialeiptwV proseucesqe
5:17 Pray without ceasing.

en panti eucaristeite touto gar qelhma qeou en cristw ihsou eiV umaV
5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19

to pneuma mh sbennute
5:19 Quench not the Spirit.

20

profhteiaV mh exouqeneite
5:20 Despise not prophesyings.

21

panta dokimazete to kalon katecete
5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22

apo pantoV eidouV ponhrou apecesqe
5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23

autoV de o qeoV thV eirhnhV agiasai umaV oloteleiV kai oloklhron umwn to pneuma kai h yuch kai to swma amemptwV en th parousia tou kuriou hmwn ihsou cristou thrhqeih
5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

pistoV o kalwn umaV oV kai poihsei
5:24 Faithful [is] he that calleth you, who also will do [it].

25

adelfoi proseucesqe peri hmwn
5:25 Brethren, pray for us.

26

aspasasqe touV adelfouV pantaV en filhmati agiw
5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

27

orkizw umaV ton kurion anagnwsqhnai thn epistolhn pasin toiV agioiV adelfoiV
5:27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

28

h cariV tou kuriou hmwn ihsou cristou meq umwn amhn proV qessalonikeiV prwth egrafh apo aqhnwn
5:28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you. Amen.
